Hopeless without Jesus

We all fall short.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Romans 3:23

There's a standard of righteousness and holiness, perfection, we are meant to live by. None of us measure up. We call that sin. Sometimes it's doing things we shouldn't. Sometimes it's not doing the things we should.

Even if you go to church, do good things, or read the Bible, none of that can bring you closer to God's standard or erase the sin in your life. The Bible is clear: the wages of sin is death. That's the worst news.

But there is hope.

Why Jesus came

God made a way.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16

Jesus came to overcome the sin that stands between us and God. At a place called Skull Hill, He died on a cross. While hanging there, God took every sin you have ever committed and put it on Jesus. He became your substitute, dying in your place.

But Jesus didn't stay dead. On the third day, He rose from the grave, offering life, forgiveness, and salvation to anyone who believes in Him.

Jesus didn't come to make bad people good. He came so dead people could live. He came so that us, separated from God by our sin, could be forgiven.

Find your home

You were made for this.

You were created for a person and a place. That person is Jesus. That place is heaven. Until you have a relationship with Jesus and are headed home, nothing in this world can ever truly satisfy you. That restlessness you feel, that ache you can't shake, it's because this world isn't enough. It was never meant to be.

As you come to know God through His Son, Jesus, you will be made new. He will orient you toward home. And He will give you purpose right here on earth while you're on the way.

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

Revelation 21:4

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Romans 10:9

How to put your faith in Jesus

A prayer
to follow Him.

Jesus has done everything required. All that's left is for you to turn to Him and say so. There are no magic words, what matters is the heart behind them. When you are ready, tell God:

A prayer of faith
Where you have been

"God, I know that I'm a sinner. I know that I'm far from you."

What you believe

"I believe in Jesus, that He died on the cross, rose from the dead, and brings me near to you, God."

What you choose

"I choose to follow you, God. I give you my life from this day forward."

What you need

"Please fill me with your Holy Spirit, and give me your power, grace, and strength to live the life I was born to live."

When you say it and mean it, you are forgiven.

You might not feel any different. But the Gospel is about facts, not feelings. If you believe in Christ, He has come into your life. You are adopted into His family. Jesus is hope.
